Is it true that there is a veteran’s preference on career Firefighting/ Fire service exams and evaluations?

(Submitted by: percyl53)

How does it work? Does this include ALL 5 military branches? Because I’ve always been interested in the US Coast Guard, and if I can utilize my service towards a firefighting career in the future that would be great!

Yes. All US Vets go to the top of the list…rightfully so IMHO.

Many departments do. But it depends on the fire department and their hiring practices as to whether they give veterans preference. If they do give preference, it would be for all five branches, including the coast guard.

Your best bet would be to ask the department(s) you would like to apply for if they give preference.

    Good luck with your endeavors.
